The fact that the U.S. had an atomic bomb and didn't tell the USSR about it made Stalin mad and even more paranoid than he already is. Truman wouldn't tell him anything so he had spies in the United States to tell him about the Manhattan Project. Though he didn't have much information about it he knew they were trying to make an atomic bomb. Stalin had promised to help the Allies in taking over Japan and had begun moving their weary but battle-hardened troops over to the far east. Victory was inevitable but when the bombs were dropped and the Soviets saw how powerful it actually it made them question if this was maybe an act of aggression and show of force. The U.S. failed to see that the Soviets already had an atomic bomb project and now the Soviets were making A-Bombs and in 1949 they successfully tested their first Atomic Bomb. The events leading after that was a competition between the two super powers on who could build the biggest baddest bombs. Nearly leading the world to Nuclear Armageddon. If the U.S. would have just let Japan bleed out and negotiated with them the Cold War would probably have never happened.
